Venice Islands: Murano, Burano, Torcello
Take a water taxi escorted by your personal assistant and sail in Venice lagoon. Discover three Venice Islands: Murano is the island of glass, Burano has brightly colored houses and Torcello is almost uninhabited.

This excursion on the northern lagoon features a tour of its most famous islands: a relaxing itinerary, away from the bustle of the city to savor the natural beauty of the marsh and lagoon that sustained the founding communities of Venice.

Murano is the island famous for its glassworks, an age-old activity that has kept its traditions intact to this day. Here you can admire the master glassblowers at work and witness the magic of glass production. Further north is the picturesque island of Burano with its brightly colored houses and famous lace. And finally we reach the nearby Torcello, where time seems to have stood still. Today the island is virtually uninhabited (with fewer than 30 residents). Immersed in rich lagoon vegetation, the island is home to the oldest monument of the lagoon: the majestic Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, founded in 639 and rebuilt in 1008. Inside you can see the ancient Last Judgment Mosaic, which is truly one of a kind.

Murano

Murano is one of the Venice Islands (together with Burano and Torcello) in Venetian Lagoon. Murano is famous for its glassworks, an age-old activity that has kept its traditions intact to this day. Here you can admire the master glassblowers at work and witness the magic of glass production. The Museum of Glass has an extraordinarily rich collection of decorated articles and glass produced between the 15th century and the present. It shows how the techniques used for making glass are changed in these centuries. A short distance from the museum is the Basilica of St Mary and St. Donato, which is one of the best examples of the Veneto-Byzantine style.

Burano

Burano is one of the Venice Islands (together with Murano and Torcello) in Venetian Lagoon. Burano, thanks to its brightly colored houses, is really picturesque. The primary economy of Burano is tourism, but still the inhabitants are involved in fishing and production of laces. Lacemaking in the Island is a tradition, but few now make lace in the traditional manner as it is extremely time-consuming and expensive. In Burano there were many important examples of sacred architecture, but nowadays only few remain.

Torcello is one of the Venice Islands (together with Murano and Burano) in Venetian Lagoon. The visit to this Island is a must for anyone wishing to enjoy the beauty of the lagoon. Here time seems to have stood still. Today the island is virtually uninhabited (with fewer than 30 residents). Immersed in rich vegetation, Torcello is home to the oldest monument of the lagoon: the majestic Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, founded in 639 and rebuilt in 1008. It's a splendid example of the Veneto-Byzantine style with splendid mosaics in the interior as the ancient Last Judgment Mosaic, which is truly one of a kind. From the bell tower there is a splendid view of the lagoon and the Venetian hinterland.
